Choosing A Name For Your Baby

Tips For Choosing An Unusual Name For Your Baby

Having a new baby is a big moment in a new parents life but once you get over the excitement of the birth among the many things to think about is naming your new baby. Choosing the name for your new baby is an importent step as it can have an effect on your child throughout his or her life.

You will probably want your little one to have a name that is unusual and different to most other kids but you need to be careful about the name you choose. Some names lead to easy nicknames when your child is at school and those names can sometimes be hurtful to your child.

You can spend many hours going through lists of baby names and making a shortlist of possible names but you must then go through this list and decide which ones would be suitable for your child. See how the name sounds when added to your family name. Check if the initials might spell or suggest something you would rather they did not. Think about possible shortened versions of the name or what might be added on to the end of it by other kids.

Check the original meaning of the name. Most name meanings are positive but there are a few that might not be so good. Many celebrities seem to go for what most of us would consider rather strange and unusual names. Having a lot of money will usually mean their children go to expensive schools where unusual names are common but this may not be the case with your children. If you don’t want to face your school age child coming home with tears streaming down their face and them telling you about the other kids turning their name into something upsetting be very careful about choosing very odd or unusual names.

When you go through the lists of baby names you will discover some that sound ok at first. They may be unusual but always think through the consequences for your child as it grows up and goes through life with the name you choose for it. They may wonder what you were thinking, later in life, if you choose an unusual baby name now.
