Having A Look At The The Whole Story About Investing In A High Definition TV

    By Kurt Lodgings | November 6, 2009

So, you are seeking a brand new HDTV?

Let’s talk about what an HDTV is, before we get started.

HDTV’s are the newest and best in TV technology, and offer much higher image clarity than it’s predecessors. For higher resolutions your TV needs to be connected to an HD signal.

Its always better to have a good knowledge about different resolution of a TV when you consider buying a new TV. Some people just want to be able to watch regular television, while other people crave high quality picture.

When buying an HD TV from a store, have them tune the TV to an HD signal so that you have an accurate demonstration of the quality of the television. The only way you can really judge the distinctions in quality and definition between the television sets is if you can watch them all side-by-side as they display the same “feed.”

Okay, so we have spoken concerning resolution, but what does it stand for?

HDTV’s come in a variety of pixels from 720-1080. There are other resolutions out there, but you should consider purchasing 1080 for great quality picture, or at least nothing lower than 720. These resolutions available are of “i” and a “p” variety like 1080i and 1080p, and the same applies to all the 720 resolutions.

1080i is the highest resolution you can get if you are only watching regular HD TV broadcasts. Technically speaking from a resolution standpoint, the best TV you can purchase today will have a 1080p rating.

As the regular broadcast TV would use 1080i only, there is no need to get the 1080p, however if you intend to buy a blue ray disc player or play the latest games on the xbox player then you should buy a 1080p.

While there are other areas that can make a difference in terms of your image quality such as: contrast ration, screen , brightness and other control features; the resolution is key to image quality as the difference between a regular non-HDTV and a 1080 resolution TV is a factor of six. A 1080p HDTV will have roughly 6 times better image clarity than older television sets.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of things you should know about before investing your hard earned money on a new HD TV set. Be sure you learn about all of the different brands. There are the top brands such as Sony and Samsung and 2nd and 3rd tier brands as well. Even though the specifications may be similar, there can still be a marked difference in each television sets performance. So buyer beware!
