How A Tummy Tuck Could Make You Happier

by Chris Channing

A tummy tuck is an operation in which the patient has excess skin removed from the body. Although several reasons would cause you to do so, losing a large amount of weight in a moderate amount of time is the main reason you would become a tummy tuck candidate.

If you are having another operation that is associated with weight loss, odds are you may need a tummy tuck. While one operation may take out fat from key parts of your body, a tummy tuck would be needed to cut away loose skin that is present after a large reduction in weight. Some types of liposuction may not require this, depending on your needs.

Because you will be on a real operating table, there will be risks that you will have to deal with. Most of these risks are nullified in the approval process, which you will go through when you seek the procedure with your surgeon. Your surgeon will ask you many questions of your medical history, and it is dire that you answer each one truthfully to bypass any complications you would experience otherwise. The wrong complication could easily mean death.

Once you are approved, get the surgery date from your surgeon and call off work for at least a week. The recovery period will take a long time. It is best to plan a surgery at least a month in advance so your employer knows far enough ahead that he or she may schedule others to fill your place. At the same time, realize that you will be missing out on valuable income for at least a week- so have some saved money at hand.

Tummy tuck operations are expensive. Expect to pay around $5,000 and up for your average operation, and perhaps more if you go with a popular surgeon. Insurance companies don’t like to help pay for these operations, since they are referenced to as cosmetic surgeries. As such, you will need to either front the money or get a loan that will help you pay for the surgery initially, so you can make payments each month.

Living near a city or even in a city is perfect for those seeking a tummy tuck. That way you will have a short drive home and you will have more access to surgeons in your area. Try to find every tummy tuck surgeon available in your immediate vicinity, then investigate their prices and advice to help you decide which would be the better surgeon to side with.

The time you will put into getting a tummy tuck will be immense- but don’t give up hope. With enough research and good will, you can get a good surgeon that will be able to restore you self happiness with just a simple surgery and small recovery.
