Is A Money Back Guarantee Required When Selling Products?

by Stu McLaren

We’ve all had those questions in our business that either stop our train of thought or slow our level of productivity down. Ranging from product creation, affiliate marketing, teleseminars, financial matters, I know in my own business I’ve come upon hundreds of business questions that I wish I could know the answer to. So, in this article I am going to answer two questions I’ve had about product creation.

Here is the question:

Is A Money Back Guarantee Required When Selling Products?

It is often the merchant account that stipulates what type of guarantee you have to give, or any guidelines to do with that. Some require that the guarantee cannot be longer than 30 days, so you should definitely check with them.

That is the easiest and fastest way to find out the specific rules and regulations that the government has set, which your merchant account will have to follow, so they are the best place to check. Your merchant account will be following and staying up-to-date with the FCC rules and regulations because they are responsible for the money coming and going.

Customers enjoy knowing you have a guarantee offered because it adds a sense of security when purchasing something from you. Make sure you do check with your merchant account though, they will be able to tell you how long you can and cannot offer a guarantee for.

Second question:

Are their people who will buy your product, download it and then immediately ask for a refund based, basically stealing it?

You will get the professional refunders who buy your product, download it, then ask for a refund, but you will also get the people that buy your product, pass on their member info to all their friends, family, and colleagues and so forth so you have got like ten people accessing one account. That is a big problem too and that is hard to tell if you do not have tracking setup.

At the start of my business I didn’t have a tracking system set up and even though I knew people were sharing my information I had no way of pinpointing exactly who it was and stopping them. Now I have a tracking system that allows me to see how many different IP addresses are accessing my information.

So there are products out there like Product Padlock that Armand Morin created, and it does helps you secure a lot of your digital products that way where it will give you the ability to see who is downloading your product, how many times they have downloaded it, where people are downloading it from.

By tracking this information you can tell if you have five completely different IP addresses downloading your information that someone is passing on their login information to other people. Product Padlock is a great resource to keep tabs on this information. There isn’t a set number or percentage that this happen, but I can tell you it does happen, no matter what type of product I sell.
