When you have owned a notebook computer for some time you get used to it and rarely worry about how fast it operates or what features it has but when you decide it is time to replace it the range of options open to you when faced with buying notebook computers can be overwhelming.
The first thing you need to decide is the screen size to go for. Screens on laptops are typically 15 or 17 inches but you can get bigger or smaller if you prefer. A 15 inch is adequate for most purposes and it also means the overall size and weight is usually less than the larger machines. The 17 inch gives more screen space to have several different windows open at the same time.
Next we have to look at processor types and speeds, hard disk sizes, memory known as RAM and any other features you might want such as onboard web cam and memory card readers.
Most laptops will come with a DVD player/writer but not all do so make sure there is one if you need it and you will probably want to have at least a couple of USB ports though some people need more and you will find notebooks with up to four of these ports built in.
Some USB ports also double as a SATA external hard disk port and this may be useful to you if you have a lot of data you will want to transfer and for backups though you can use the USB ports to connect to an external hard disk though it will be slower to transfer all your information.
So, as you can see there are a lot of choices to make if you decide on buying notebook computer as a replacement of a first laptop computer. We have not even considered what the keyboards and screens are like though most are pretty good these days. Take your time and browse the internet to see what is available before you make your choice when buying a laptop.
Speak to friends about the notebooks they use and ask what they would look for when it comes to features in a notebook computer. Remeber the salesman or woman in a store wants you to buy the most expensive machine they can get you to buy. You often do not need half the features of the most powerful notebooks.
